Quick Hits: Old-Timey Books on Istanbul

October 28, 2010

It’s quiet…too quiet…in Turkey these days. Giving us with precious little to overanalyze as much as we’d like.

That said, the New York Times did a review of Istanbul City Guides today, and its one worth checking out. As much as we’d love to be your sole and primary guide to Istanbul, well, you can’t always have a computer with you. So it may behoove you to check out one of the three books they mention.

A Grand Bazaar guide is necessary…I for one have never been able to make much of the place. Istanbul Eats is, well, Istanbul Eats. And Pat Yale warmed my heart when she said ““Many guidebooks lose interest in Istanbul after the 17th century.”

So check it out and buy their books. And be sure to visit the Mosque-as-Interpreted-by-Louis I. Kahn in Uskudar.
