2.Events

It’s a big city out there. And if you only go to the lazer-light show at Sultanahmet and Jazz at Galata Tower, you’re missing out on everything there is on offer.

We have a Google Calendar up. It is seeded with the best, most interesting, events each week. And because it is a Google Calendar, you have the opportunity to attach it to your own Calendar, put it on your iPhone, or get automatic e-mail updates for tickets. Also, there’s an RSS feed to subscribe to, if that’s more your thing.

In addition, we’ll be sure to be loud about the real eye-openers. Not as much U2, Escape from the Seraglio. More of the best music clubs and the film festivals and sorts. We’ll be omnivorous and connected. All you have to do is listen.

We’re looking for Social Butterflies! If you know the city and want to share the best of it, please let us know. We’d be happy to do the connecting if you have tips to share, and if you’d like to write full-time, we could certainly come to an arrangement.

Please contact us at contact[at] istanbulalti [dot] com with tips and comments. If you would like to go by a pseudonym or be anonymous, please just let us know.

Regarding your recent post about camel wrestling, it actually lasts through a good chunk of the winter along the Aegean — I went in Izmir in late February — and events are generally just held on Sundays. Don’t know what your “sketchy website” source was, but this one was actually pretty accurate for the 2009/2010 season:

Awesome, thanks! I’ve not yet been, so was relying on a website listing seasonal festivals globally, but that’s much more complete. Inshallah I’ll get down to see some camels this year.

I’d love to come along. Let me know if you are thinking about going. 🙂
